HISTORY

The Centre for Liberal and Language Studies (CLLS) is the youngest academic centre in the National Defence University of Malaysia. In fact, the University itself is the youngest public higher learning institution in Malaysia. The establishment of the Centre started with the appointment of the Director on 1 May 2008, followed by the transfer of language instructors from the Centre for Foundation Studies and liberal courses lecturers from the Faculty of Defence and Management Studies on 1 July 2008. From 10 July 2008 onwards, the management and support staff for the Centre started to report for duty.

The CLLS was approved by the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia to operate legally in November 2008. This allows the Centre to receive financial support from the Bursary of the Defence University. With the budget allocated, the Centre was able to request for an administration office, which is now located at Level 2, Bestari Building.

Now, the centre is known as the Language Centre (LC) effective 1 June 2012.
