INTRODUCTION

The Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Research Centre (HADR) was officially established on February 2017 at the National Defence University of Malaysia, under the auspices of the Vice Chancellor’s Office. As a Centre of Excellence at the university, the Centre focuses its endeavours on research and development revolving around managing disasters, particularly for the reduction of disaster risks, as well as in planning for emergency responses among local agencies, NGOs and community members.

At present, the Centre has been involved in cooperative efforts with various agencies and organisations at the local, regional and international level, including:

• National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA)

• Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI)

• Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia)

• Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID)

• Department of Survey and Mapping (JUPEM)

• Joint Forces Headquarters (MKAB) of the Malaysian Armed Forces

• Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM)

• Johor Petroleum Development Corporation (JPDC)

• United Nations World Food Programme (WFP)

• ASEAN Humanitarian Assistance Centre (AHA Centre)

• International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC)

• United Kingdom Space Agency (UKSA)

• Janus TCD Ltd. (UK)

• United States Pacific Command (USPACOM)
