CoMIHL is a NDUM’s latest centre being established to conduct research, disseminate and compliance in the areas of Military Law (MilLaw) and International Humanitarian Law (IHL) amongst not only academics but also military operational planners and the general public. The targeted segment of the general populace is not only within Malaysia but to include ASEAN as well as the larger Asia Pacific region.

CoMIHL is essentially a crystallisation of the collaborative efforts of the NDUM and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) based in Geneva, Switzerland. With establishment of this Centre, in so far as IHL training and dissemination for the Malaysian Armed forces is concerned, in compliance with the Geneva Conventions Act 1962, CoMIHL shall be the epicentre of such an undertaking.

In addition, CoMIHL will be the regional focal point for academics, policy drafters, and operational planners (including military commanders) as well as interested law practitioners for the conduct of training, research as well academic activities and international dissemination. Furthermore, undergraduates of NDUM, will greatly benefit from CoMIHL, since MilLaw and IHL are core subjects for all academic courses run within the university.
