Duty,Honour, Intergrity; Military Leadership versus Organisational Leadership, Common Traits and Practices.Does One Complement the Other?

In this evolving world situation, more and more emphasis is given to effective leadership in order to create a just and equitable world where organisation is led by effective leaders with a world view. Effective leaders create effective organisation. Many people consider leadership to be an art and science but whatever the case maybe, leaders are to lead.

In the military world, leadership is characterise as the “process of influencing others to accomplish the mission by providing purpose, direction, and motivation.” It further differentiates that “Command is the authority a person in the military service lawfully exercises over subordinates by virtue of his rank and assignment or position.”

In the corporate world, Organizational leadership is a blending of the art and the science in order to give a company direction. There is no single doctrine outlining the rules and beliefs of this business tool, but there are several similarities no matter what the company vision or goal. Organizational leadership is a dual focused management approach that works towards what is best for individuals and what is best for a group as a whole simultaneously. It is also an attitude and a work ethic that empowers an individual in any role to lead from the top, middle, or bottom of an organization.
