SAM 2026 Draws to a Close, Developing Characterful Foundation Athletes.
1 FEBRUARY 2026 | KUALA LUMPUR: The cheers that filled the arena over three days finally subsided as the 9th Malaysian Foundation Games 2026 (SAM 2026) officially came to a close today.
Organized by UPNM as the host, SAM 2026 brought together approximately 1,400 foundation athletes from across the country on a competitive stage that emphasized discipline, sportsmanship, and character development.
The Closing Ceremony was officiated by YBhg. Prof. Datuk Dr. Azlinda binti Azman, Director General of Higher Education, and was also attended by the UPNM Vice-Chancellor, Lt. Jen Datuk Wira Arman Rumaizi bin Hj Ahmad, as well as representatives from participating universities and contingents.

With the theme “Ignite the Foundation Spirit, Boost Performance”, SAM 2026 featured 11 sports events encompassing physical, mental, technical, and e-sports competitions, reflecting a holistic approach to student development. The UiTM Foundation Centre was crowned the Overall Champion of SAM 2026.
As a symbolic closing, the championship flag was handed over to the University of Malaya (UM), the host for SAM 2027. While SAM 2026 has concluded, the foundation spirit that was cultivated will continue to move forward.
