IDEAS 2026: Where Ideas, Innovation, and Defence Converge at UPNM
24 JUNE 2026 | PUTRAJAYA: What does the future of national defence look like? This question was among the primary focal points discussed throughout the International Defence, Engineering and Security (IDEAS) Conference 2026, which brought together researchers, academics, industry players, as well as local and international defence and security communities.
Organized by the Faculty of Engineering, UPNM, and officiated by Prof. Dr. Aidy bin Ali, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) of UPNM, the conference served as a premier platform for sharing ideas, research, and innovations that support the development of national defence and security.
Among the key highlights was a presentation by Lt Jen Dato’ Nur Hafis bin Abdul Karim TUDM, Deputy Chief of the Air Force, who shared insights on the global security landscape and future defence capabilities.

The conference also featured Dr. Hidayati, S.T., S.H., M.T., M.H., Colonel Czi (K), Head of the Civil Engineering Study Programme at the Faculty of Defence Technology, Republic of Indonesia Defence University (UNHAN), who discussed the role of construction technology in post-disaster humanitarian missions. Additionally, Prof. Ir. Dr. Shahrum Abdullah from Mechanical Engineering, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), highlighted the potential of artificial intelligence in enhancing the security of critical assets.
Through IDEAS 2026, UPNM continues to reinforce its role as the nation’s premier defence university, contributing to the development of knowledge, technology, and solutions to confront future security challenges.
